These compassionate lessons from the Sermon on the Mount touch us deeply in our hearts. Yet for 20 centuries, they were dismissed as impractical by virtually all Christians. Why? Was Jesus, who is said to have spoken the Sermon on the Mount, a naive fool for presenting humanity with ethics that are impractical? Or is there another explanation?
